Time to Shop! Cincinnati Spring Show is Underway!

Meet Jasmine from Fabric Creations By Jas...

My name is Jasmine and I am a student at the University of Cincinnati. I will begin their Doctorate of Physical Therapy program this May! When I’m not busy with school or work, I enjoy sewing, playing with my guinea pigs and bearded dragon, and spending time with my boyfriend. I am so excited for my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!

I have been sewing for about 6 months, but have been into other forms of arts and crafts my whole life. I decided to start sewing as a way to unwind after a stressful day. I really liked the efficiency of the sewing machine and have really invested in sewing ever since. I really enjoy being able to see a finished project that not only turns out how I envisioned it, but is also practical and useful.

I discovered my talent through practice. Practice, practice, practice! I joke that I have a whole graveyard of failed attempts and if I didn’t have those, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

I am definitely drawn to useful items. I try and think about patterns and projects that can be useful and then work with the pattern on paper first. Once I get it drawn out, I use fabric scraps to practice on until I get the item the way I want it.

I would love for this to continue to be a part of my life in 5 years! I think it would be really awesome to grow my business and become more recognizable. I like to be able to share how sewing has been a great stress reliever for me. The bigger message is that finding something you love to do can be turned into something really cool :) I never thought that I would be able to sell my crafts, but it’s been such a great process and journey to creating a sellable product.

Meet Tyler from Spectral Stone and Wood...
Spectral Stone and Wood is your wellspring source for intriguing, handcrafted jewelry and woodworking pieces that are truly in a class of their own. Though the journey began years before, Spectral Stone and Wood was officially established in 2019. Tyler, who is our master craftsman, has intricate experience in woodworking and stone collection that extends back 20 years.

This is the beautiful fruit of those formative years. Tyler invests his passion into every semi-precious stone and gem piece produced. His trained eye for detail and ability to fashion fascinating and unique statement pieces are evident. Each one is carefully designed with quality and craftsmanship which produces heirloom pieces that will withstand the test of time.

Tyler typically fashions his distinctive pendant necklaces and earrings with primarily, lustrous rose gold and sterling silver. Our hand-crafted silver and gold jewelry often includes brilliant semi-precious stones, as well as a variety of many different enthralling gems. We only utilize genuine, exceptional quality stones and luxe gems, meaning you can purchase with confidence, knowing that your handcrafted jewelry will be even more dazzling in person than when viewed online.

We embrace the natural beauty of these stones, with their irregular shapes and prismatic color combinations. We believe natural beauty is true beauty. Because of this, not one piece of jewelry is the same and they are all unique in their own way, so each piece is a treasure that stands alone. For this reason, when you see something that allures you, we highly recommend that you make it your own before it is gone. We invite you to browse all of our most recently forged pieces, fresh out of Tyler’s artisan workshop.

Meet Michele from Southern Sewn Designs...
Hello! My name is Michele Lagasse. I love being a mom to 2 adult kids and my favorite role as Mimi to 3 grandkids (4, 2, and 3 months). I am a native Texan and moved to Cincinnati in 2013 where I  met my husband. We love being empty nesters and the freedom of time to enjoy life. I am very excited to be a part of the Avant-Garde Cincinnati Art & Craft Show; it’s my first time!
I started my sewing business, Southern Sewn Designs, in late 2016. I created my business with the desire to be remote and travel full-time. A post office is always close by no matter the location. I just needed one thing—to learn how to sew! I discovered my talent through a strong desire for all things babies—I wanted to have grandbabies. I also needed to figure out a business model that would support full-time RVing thus Southern Sewn Designs was created.

What inspires me to create is the excitement of my wonderful customers when they receive their handmade blankets and scarves. It is such an honor to play a small part in their lives from something very special like bringing baby home to so much more. My creative process has really evolved. I’ve focused on personalized minky blankets for babies and pets for many years. Although I still do this, I have now shifted my focus to these incredible faux fur fabrics and have enlarged my work space to make adult-size blankets. I love finding new fabrics and color combinations and have recently expanded to faux fur scarves. One touch and you’ll be hooked  too!

In five years, I see myself doing the same thing at a higher volume. I love what I do so it never feels like work—it’s fun and so rewarding. The message behind my work is my business slogan--Threaded with love. I love what I do and I love connecting with people. Learning the stories behind the blankets I make creates that personal  connection with my customers. When I receive messages, reviews and especially pictures, it just makes my day!

See you this weekend, Cincinnati!

Meet Kelley from Bead Heads Jewelry...

Kelley King is a Florida native, but she relocated to the Cincinnati area in 2019. Kelley is a professional dance teacher and Choreographer by day and a "bead head" by night!

Kelley started bead weaving at age 16. Being from a Cherokee family, it's important to declare a tribal tradition that you will carry on. That is how the beads found her!

This is Kelley's 2nd Avant-Garde event and is so excited to be able to share her bead love. She enjoys making unique and individual works of wearable art that are as unique and individual as you!

You can find images of her works on Facebook at Bead Heads Jewelry. Custom orders are available for your special event (weddings, vacations, sporting events,  birthdays, etc). You can contact her through her Facebook page or email (beadheadsjewelry@gmail.com). In Kelley's words, "life is too short to wear department store jewelry!"

Meet Lara from Laras Bottles and more...

Hello! My name is Lara. I have a wonderfully supportive husband; am a mother to 3 sons, 1 daughter and 2 daughter-in-laws; am a doting grandmother to a beautiful, strong granddaughter; and a dog mom! I love crafting (obvious), walking with my hubby and dog, wine, soccer, yoga and decorating for the holidays. This is my first time to have a booth at this craft show.

I have 4 children in the military. As any military parent can attest…this can add a little bit of stress to your day to day. Late night crafting got me through basic training and gut churning deployments. The middle of the night restlessness and fears were fuel for creative juices to flow. This became my form of therapy. I was able to redirect my bottled up emotions to create something whimsical and fun.

have been crafty since I was a kid. My first bottle creation was actually an 8th grade Home Ec project and I still have it!

What really spring-boarded my creations with wine bottles and mason jars was hosting “craft day with the girls.” Once a month I would organize a get together at my house. The crafting day kicked off with an idea; advanced to supplies, food, wine and laughter; and ended up with each of us creating a unique decoration and lots of memories. One of the craft days, we used wine bottles and I just kept going with the creations! I soon had a big stash of painted wine bottles and started gifting them to friends and loved ones. Now I am taking on the venture of selling them to new friends.

I love decorating my home for the holidays. As I decorate my home, an inspiration for something new often pops into my head. I typically sketch out my idea in a notebook and then pull supplies together to create it. I tweak it until the vision in my head has a physical form I am happy with. Then I make more! The original creation ends up in my decor and I am able to share that inspiration with others. My goal with my work is to create something whimsical to make people smile. One of my favorite things to do is to create something unique from a request. Give me a theme or an idea and I’ll turn that into something special. It is most rewarding to see the reaction from a handmade, personal gift.

Meet Taressa from Curry's Crafting Corner...

Hi, our crafting business is Curry's Crafting Corner. It includes myself, my wife and my 20-year-old son Jarrett. We live on a mini farm in Mt. Orab. We have miniature donkeys, horses, goats, chickens, rabbits, lizards, cats, dogs and even a mini pig who lives inside the house. Piggy Sue is very smart, and house broken.

We have been doing craft fairs for the past two years. We started by making vinyl gifts but now all our products are sublimation. This is our first Avant-Garde event and we are so excited to participate.

I started making gifts for my wife and son and they loved them so much we started expanding and making other products. We get our inspiration by our customers' needs. I discovered my talent because my wife pushed me to expand into making products for others.

I love designing products with the customers input and putting my own special touch on them. In 5 years, I see myself still designing and crafting and making others personalized gifts. I want to make my customers happy and have them completely satisfied.
